The library branches will be restricted to 1/3 fire capacity, two metre social distancing, and the wearing of face masks. Proof of exemption is required for those who refuse to wear a mask or face shield. In person programs has been put on hold until further notice. Curbside pick-up is available for those who prefer to have their items brought outside to them in the parking lot.

How to Borrow a Telus Smart Hub from the Cold Lake Public Library

Through a generous donation from Telus, the Cold Lake Public Library is able to offer you Internet service on the go. We now have two 4G LTE Telus Smart Hubs (with 1 TB of data included; 25 Mbps speed) for loan with your Cold Lake Public Library card.

How it works

The loan period for a Smart Hub is one month. You can reserve one by calling the library at 780 639-3967 and asking for Tanya or emailing: asst_director@library.coldlake.ab.ca. Your name will be added to the waiting list. Your library account must be in good standing and you must be 18 or older. Only one Smart Hub can be checked out to a card (and/or family) at any time. The loans are only available locally. You will need cell service in the area for the smart hubs to work as they run off cell towers. The smart hubs are not guaranteed to work in everyone's home. You don't need to be with Telus for it to work. More than one person can use the device at once; it depends on the traffic.

Picking Up and Returning the Smart Hub

All devices must be picked up at and returned to the Cold Lake Public Library North Branch (1301 8th Avenue) during open hours. Please DO NOT use the outdoor or indoor drop box or you may be responsible for damage to the device.

The Library will remotely disable any Smart Hubs that are not returned by the due date. And there is a replacement cost of 300.00 if the item is lost, damaged, or not returned.

Conditions of Use

Please note that when borrowing this device, you are agreeing to adhere to the Cold Lake Public Library's Internet and Computer Use Policy including:

  • Access to the library’s network and equipment is provided free of charge with no guarantees of performance, security, confidentiality, or availability. Use of the network and equipment is done at the patron’s own risk. Patrons are responsible for closing all applications and logging out when they are done using computers.
  • Library computers, equipment and networks must not be used for any illegal, unauthorized, disruptive, threatening, harassing, or dangerous purpose. Internet users are subject to federal and provincial legislation regulating Internet use, including the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada regarding obscenity, child pornography, sedition, the incitement of hatred, and the Canadian Copyright Act.
  • Internet access at the library is not filtered. Patrons should be aware that the internet is an unregulated environment and information found there may not be accurate, complete, age appropriate, or current. Parents, guardians, or caregivers are responsible for guiding their child’s use of library computers and networks.
  • The library prohibits damaging or modifying the library’s equipment, software, or networks, or accessing confidential information.

Library staff are authorized to intervene when patrons fail to comply with the Internet and Computer Use Policy. This may result in the suspension of library privileges or exclusion from the library. Unlawful activities may result in prosecution.
